He, however, ordered someone to euthanize (mercy kill) the bear to put it out of its misery.
The story became a headline and soon caught the attention of Clifford Berryman, a political cartoonist. He then drew a cartoon of both the bear and Teddy Roosevelt sitting together symbolizing their friendship. From that point on, people started to manufacture huge quantities of the new toy called a Teddy Bear (with the permission of Teddy Roosevelt) and have been popular throughout the world as children’s primary and iconic toy companion when they play or sleep.
